Introduction to Flowcotes

Flowcotes are formulated to be used as topcoats for both Interior and Exterior surfaces.

They are very similar to gel coats except that they cure tack-free.

They are used:

  • like a paint on FRP surfaces,
  • as a top coat to seal and hide a substrate and
  • to ensure that there is no exposed glass fibre.

Flowcotes are typically used to provide a pigmented surface that is easy to clean.

Flowcotes contain wax.  Thus flowcotes cure tack-free because their wax helps to suppress styrene evaporation.

Flowcotes cannot be used like gel coats, since the wax will cause delamination.

Not all flowcotes are of the same quality. Some have higher filler loadings and therefore will fill better. But the gloss level will be reduced, thus affecting its ability to be cleaned.

Flowcotes are made with a wide range of resins depending on their intended end use.
